It took 12 innings, a whole lot of patience, and probably a few Tampa Bay fans needing their blood pressure checked, but THE RAYS FINALLY GOT ONE AT THE CRIB!
The Tampa Bay Rays pulled off a dramatic 4-3 walk-off victory over the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday night at Tropicana Field, avoiding a World Series sweep and keeping their championship hopes alive!
And when we say dramatic, WE MEAN DRAMATIC!
The Brewers were just three outs away from celebrating their first World Series championship when rookie Cooper Pratt blasted a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead.
But somebody forgot to tell the Rays their season was supposed to be over!
In the bottom of the 12th, Tampa Bay took advantage of a Milwaukee throwing error, and the comeback was ON!
Liam Hicks kept things moving with a single, Jonny DeLuca delivered the game-tying hit, and Chandler Simpson loaded the bases.
Then came Ben Williamson, stepping up as a pinch-hitter and delivering the walk-off single that sent Nick Fortes racing home with the winning run!
FINAL SCORE: RAYS 4, BREWERS 3!
And just like that, the celebration Milwaukee had planned turned into a party for Tampa Bay!
Now Comes the Hard Part!
Milwaukee still leads the best-of-seven World Series 3-1, meaning the Rays have absolutely NO room for error.
One more loss, and it’s over.
But one more WIN? Well, now things start getting interesting!
Here’s a little baseball history to think about: In 2004, the Boston Red Sox became the first and only Major League Baseball team to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series, defeating the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
So, impossible? Nope.
Unlikely? Absolutely.
But that’s why they play the games!
Game 5: Tonight at the Trop!
The Rays and Brewers are back at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg tonight, Wednesday, October 28, with first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
Milwaukee will send Jacob Misiorowski to the mound, looking to finish the series, while Tampa Bay hopes to build on the momentum from Tuesday night’s unforgettable victory.
And while the Rays still have a mountain to climb, they’ve already accomplished one very important thing:
THEY REFUSED TO GET SWEPT!
Now we need another one tonight!
Come on, Tampa Bay! Get those Rays shirts out, make some noise, and let’s keep this thing going!
