Tampa entered the top 50 of Orkin’s 2026 bed bug cities list for the first time. The bed bug cities list highlights several summer destinations that are experiencing bed bug activity, including Tampa and Myrtle Beach. Tampa was ranked 46th out of 50 on the list, making its first appearance in the top 50. The rankings are based on treatment data where Orkin performed the most bed bug treatments from May 12, 2025, to May 12, 2026. This included most residential and commercial bed bug treatments. According to Orkin, most bed bugs can be found anywhere people live or travel, but densely populated cities and environments with high resident and visitor turnover, like apartments, dorms, and hotels, can create more opportunities for bed bugs to spread. Bed bugs often target sleeping humans and can easily spread by hitchhiking on luggage, purses, and other personal belongings, Orkin said.
