A new report is shedding light on how much income Americans need to afford a median-priced home. Redfin reported that the income required to afford a home is largely unchanged from last year’s record high. To afford a typical U.S. home for sale, Americans need to earn $109,796. In Tampa, the income needed to afford a typical home is $103,549, which is 0.2% higher than last year. The report said that homebuying affordability is essentially flat from a year ago because monthly housing costs are increasing and incomes have increased at a similar rate. However, Redfin said the income required to afford a home is still $22,197 higher than the typical U.S. household income of $87,599. In Tampa, the income needed to afford a home is still $22,159 higher than the estimated median income of $81,390.
