Utz Quality Foods is issuing a voluntary recall for certain varieties of potato chips, including Zapp’s and Dirty brands, that were sold nationwide, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Monday.
One of the ingredients, dry milk powder, added to the chips may have been infected with salmonella.
While batches of the chips have tested negative for salmonella, Utz has issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution,” basing it on a recall from the dry milk powder supplier.
Salmonella may cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
To date, no complaints of illness have been reported to Utz with the recalled product.
The recall is limited exclusively to the products listed below:
