BET Awards 2026: Teyana Taylor’s Emotional Night, Lauryn Hill Makes History & Clipse Scores Big

The 2026 BET Awards celebrated the biggest names in Black music, film, and entertainment, delivering unforgettable performances, emotional speeches, and history-making moments.

One of the night’s most talked-about highlights came when music icon Janet Jackson surprised Teyana Taylor by presenting her with the BET Icon of the Year Award. Taylor became emotional as Jackson praised her impact as a singer, actress, director, and creative force. During her acceptance speech, Taylor thanked her supporters, spoke about the importance of collaboration over competition, and revealed she’s also preparing to graduate from culinary school. She dedicated the honor to her daughters.

Taylor also walked away as one of the night’s biggest winners, earning Best Actress, Video Director of the Year, and Icon of the Year honors.

Hip-hop duo Clipse had an incredible evening as well, taking home Album of the Year for Let God Sort ‘Em Out, along with Best Group and Best Collaboration for “Chains & Whips” featuring Kendrick Lamar.

Speaking of Lamar, the rap superstar added another milestone to his legendary career, winning Best Male Hip-Hop Artist for a record ninth time.

Other major winners included:

  • Cardi B – Best Female Hip-Hop Artist
  • Kehlani – Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year for Folded
  • Leon Thomas – Best Male R&B/Pop Artist
  • Michael B. Jordan – Best Actor for Sinners
  • Ryan Coogler’s Sinners – Best Movie

The evening also paid tribute to trailblazers who have shaped Black culture. Ms. Lauryn Hill received the inaugural Living Legend Icon Award, recognizing her lasting influence on music and generations of artists. Legendary music executive Sylvia Rhone was honored with the BET Ultimate Icon Award for her groundbreaking leadership and impact on the music industry.

Another memorable moment came when Jazzy’s World TV, 16-year-old celebrity interviewer Jazlyn Guerra, received the Rising Star Award, continuing her impressive journey as one of entertainment’s brightest young personalities.

From emotional tributes to record-breaking wins, the 2026 BET Awards once again celebrated Black excellence while honoring the artists, creators, and leaders who continue to shape music, culture, and entertainment around the world.
