COVID monkeys escape Mississippi The Jasper County (Miss.) Sheriff’s Department said the escaped monkeys were aggressive and infected with COVID, hepatitis C and herpes.

Jessica Bond Ferguson, a mother from Mississippi, shot and killed an escaped monkey to protect her children after being warned about potential diseases. The incident occurred near her home when her son spotted the monkey outside their yard. Ferguson, a professional chef, took action to prevent the monkey from posing a threat to her children. The monkeys, identified as Rhesus macaques, had escaped from a research facility, prompting a search by wildlife officers and deputies. This incident follows a similar escape in South Carolina last year involving Rhesus macaques.
