Jamal Roberts, a P.E. teacher and father of three from Meridian, won this season’s “American Idol” with a record-breaking 26 million votes. Roberts expressed his gratitude for the support and acknowledged the challenging journey to victory. He dedicated his win to his children, hometown, and the state of Mississippi. Roberts is the second Mississippian to win “American Idol,” following Trent Harmon from Amory, with La’Porsha Renae from McComb as a runner-up.
