Lionel Richie had jokes — and Usher and Chris Brown were the targets.

During a recent concert stop in Phoenix, the R&B legend took a playful shot at the two superstars and their joint stadium tour, basically reminding everybody that two major R&B acts hitting the road together is nothing new.

Richie, who is touring with Earth, Wind & Fire, joked that Usher and Chris Brown may think they’re doing something new, but The Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire were doing it decades ago.

Then Lionel took it there.

“The only difference is... between then and now... we didn’t go to jail,” Richie joked.

The crowd immediately reacted with laughs and a few shocked sounds before Richie tried to clean it up, jokingly referring to Usher and Brown as “fine Christian men.”

Richie wasn’t finished. He also joked about how different things were before Instagram and TikTok gave everybody the ability to immediately post everything happening in their lives.

Chris Brown Responds

If anybody was waiting for Chris Brown to clap back at the 77-year-old legend, Breezy wasn’t having it.

Brown responded on his Instagram Story with references to Richie’s classic “All Night Long,” before adding:

“Damn Uncle we love you Papa.”

So apparently, no R&B beef here. Chris seemed to understand exactly what it was — an OG having a little fun with the younger generation.

And Lionel Richie has definitely earned the right to talk a little trash.

What do you think? Was Lionel just having some harmless OG fun, or did Uncle Lionel go a little too far?
