The Trump administration has released a trove of digitized documents related to the 1968 assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., including potential leads and information on James Earl Ray. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the importance of finding answers about King’s death, while his children cautioned the public to view the documents in context, highlighting the FBI’s surveillance campaign against their father. Despite the release, King biographer David Garrow noted that the documents did not contain new information, with some critics suggesting the timing was meant to divert attention from other issues. The National Archives is working to release any remaining records, including wiretap recordings, with some materials sealed until 2027.
