Questlove is hitting all the right notes once again. The Oscar-winning filmmaker, drummer, and music historian is officially set to direct his fourth music documentary—this time celebrating one of the most legendary bands in history: Earth, Wind & Fire. The film will premiere on HBO, adding another powerful chapter to Questlove’s growing list of cultural deep dives.

Earth, Wind & Fire was founded in Los Angeles in 1969 by visionary bandleader Maurice White. He was soon joined by his brother, Verdine White, whose thunderous bass lines became a cornerstone of the group’s sound, and Philip Bailey, whose soaring falsetto helped define their signature style. The band quickly grew into a collective of top-tier musicians, anchored by a horn section so electrifying it became legendary in its own right.
