Rays Are Making Their Stadium Smaller

The Tampa Bay Rays have always had trouble filling Tropicana Field. But rather than try to boost attendance, the team is going to make the stadium smaller instead.

The team is getting rid of all the upper deck seats and reducing the stadium capacity to just 26,000 - by far the smallest in Major League Baseball.

Rays president Matt Silverman says the move will "create a more intimate, entertaining, and appealing experience for our fans".

Last year the Rays averaged about 14,000 fans per game, which ranked 29th out of 30 teams.
