The Pinellas County Urban League and Urban League of Hillsborough County have officially joined forces, creating a new regional organization — the Urban League of the Florida Suncoast.
The merger brings the two organizations together under the leadership of President and CEO Nikki Gaskin-Capehart, expanding the Urban League’s ability to share resources, programs and services throughout the Tampa Bay region and beyond. The merger officially took effect September 22.
“This is about building regional capacity,” Gaskin-Capehart has said of the effort, with the organization emphasizing a unified approach to serving communities across county lines. The expanded service area includes Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, Marion, Lake, Sumter and Seminole counties, with additional expansion planned for Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and Lee counties.
Expanding Services Across the Region
The Urban League’s work focuses on several core areas, including housing and community development, education and community leadership, workforce development and job placement, health and quality of life, and financial and economic empowerment.
For communities such as Hernando County, the regional model allows the organization to coordinate workforce and community initiatives through partnerships and host sites, extending services beyond its physical offices.
The organization’s St. Petersburg headquarters remains at 333 31st Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33713.
Reclaim Your Vote: Upcoming Community Events
Along with its broader community services, the Urban League is continuing its Reclaim Your Vote: Reclaim Your Power initiative. Based on the campaign schedule, the remaining events beginning September 23 include:

The merger represents a significant expansion of the Urban League’s regional footprint while continuing its mission of helping underserved residents access opportunities, resources and services designed to strengthen families and communities.
