Viola Davis, a native of South Carolina who grew up in Rhode Island, is giving back to her community by investing $1.2 million in a new community center named after her mother, Mary Alice Davis. The Mary Alice Davis Family Engagement Center will provide social services, educational opportunities, community programming, and food assistance to families in Central Falls. The center aims to create opportunities for the next generation and support families in need, reflecting Davis’ belief in the importance of investing in people and creating places where hope can grow. The center will also house the Mary Alice Davis Food Pantry, which serves hot meals to nearly 3,000 Rhode Islanders each month.
