Experience alone might not carry the weight it used to in the job search, with nearly half of recruiters using LinkedIn globally explicitly using skills data to help fill their roles. Employers are shifting their focus from experience to skills when hiring new talent, according to a report by LinkedIn. Employers are increasingly evaluating candidates based on their capabilities rather than where they’ve worked or studied, prioritizing hybrid, adaptable skills over linear resumes or traditional degrees. Recruiters who consider candidates by skills rather than qualification or previous experience are 12% more likely to make better-quality hires and make more hires overall. Nearly half of recruiters globally are using skills data to fill roles, with over 65% in the U.S. relying on AI to find highly skilled candidates. While this skills-focused approach may benefit candidates with non-linear career paths, the U.S. labor market remains weakened, with concerns about Black unemployment.
