Autumn Kelso is a firefighter from St. Pete and she has just set a Guinness World Record for being the world’s shortest female firefighter. Don’t let the size fool you. She stands at 4-foot-10 and has spent the past five years serving the St. Pete Beach area, and handles everything from driving fire trucks to entering burning buildings. She says her height has never held her back on the job. In fact, her fellow firefighters rely on her when they need to enter tight spaces like attics and small openings. Autumn decided to become a firefighter after spending her 20s in the corporate world, eventually deciding that life behind a desk wasn’t for her. She says the best part of her job is being able to help make a difference to the community,”. “There’s no better feeling than being able to show up and see someone – who appears to be having the worst day of their life – and you’re there, and you’re able to make a little bit of a difference to them.
