With Christmas right around the corner, a survey asked which topics should be avoided during the holidays with family and friends. 47% of Americans say sitting at the KIDS’ TABLE sounds more appealing than ever. Millennials were the most likely to agree, 62%.
According to the survey, here are the Top 10 topics we’re hoping to avoid during the holidays.
1. Politics. You can pretty much bank on it topping the list each year.
2. Money. Avoid pointed questions like, “How much are you making these days?”
3. Appearance or weight. Don’t shame anyone for what’s on their plate.
4. Religion. “Why don’t you come to church with us?” is a common question around the holidays.
5. Their ex. Avoid questions like, “Why isn’t Jerry here this year?”
6. Mental health. It’s just a bit heavy for dinner chit-chat.
7. Work or career issues. If you know things aren’t going well, don’t bring it up.
8. Personal struggles. Again, keep it light. Don’t bring up anything negative.
9. Current relationship status. Things like, “Why haven’t you found anyone yet?” or “When are you getting married?”
10. Other family members. Try to avoid bashing or gossiping about someone who isn’t there. It could cause a fight, or just bring down the mood.
