“Open Carry” legally starts today (Sept 25, 2025)

Open carry is now permitted in most public places, with a few exceptions. Here is a list that outlines restricted areas, even if they are public property.

  • Courthouses
  • Police/sheriff’s offices
  • Certain government buildings
  • Colleges/universities
  • Schools, school buses and school-sponsored events

Polk County Sherriff Grady Judd, who is a big fan of the 2nd Amendment, says that there are still a few gray areas when it comes to the new law. Check out his thoughts below.
