Pinellas County is hosting a free tire collection event on April 18 to help residents dispose of old tires, which can pose a public health risk by creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The event is open to county residents only and each person can drop off up to 12 tires. Tires with rims will not be accepted, and businesses cannot participate. Crews will send collected tires to the county’s Waste-to-Energy facility. The facility generates electricity for about 45,000 homes each day. Workers will also recover and recycle metal left behind after processing. Residents can also find disposal options year-round using the County’s online tool.
