St. Pete approves nearly $400,000 budget to search for graves under Tropicana Field parking lot

They call it “ground truthing” and St. Pete officials have approved a nearly $400,000 budget to search for possible graves under the parking lot at Tropicana Field. Researchers believe that there may be as many as 10 bodies there. These bodies are believed to have been buried at the historic Oaklawn Cemetery.

City officials say the work is expected to start after the 2026 Rays baseball season, once activity around the stadium slows down.
