Are you someone who likes to host Thanksgiving because you can be in control of the kitchen . . . or are you someone who wants someone else to host so you can just show up and eat?
There’s a new poll out on the WORK behind Thanksgiving, and here are the highlights:
1. 10% of Americans say THEY will do “all” of the Thanksgiving cooking . . . another 14% say they will do most of it, with help from others. 8% of people say they’ll do HALF.
27% of people say they’ll help, but others will do most of it. And 13% are free-loaders who admit they will do NONE of the cooking.
2. Men (18%) are more likely than women (7%) to say they will do ZERO of the cooking. Young adults, under 30 (16%), and older adults, 65 and older (13%), are also more likely to say they stay out of the kitchen.
3. There’s the expression, “You cook, I’ll clean” . . . but that does NOT apply to Thanksgiving. Most Americans who are doing most of the Thanksgiving cooking say they’ll also do most of the cleaning.
77% of the people who say OTHER people will do all of the cooking also say OTHER people will do all or most of the clean-up. Must be nice.
In fact, among people who do LITTLE or NO cooking, only 8% say they’ll do a majority of the cleaning. And only 1% say they’ll do ALL of the cleaning.
4. So what do you do if you: DON’T want to cook . . . DON’T want to clean . . . and DON’T have a family member or friend who will do it for you? How about a Thanksgiving dinner at the White House. (???)
For some reason, the poll asked, “Would you rather spend Thanksgiving at your own house or the White House?” And 83% said their own house . . . 8% said the White House . . . and 9% said they’d prefer somewhere else.
For what it’s worth, older men are the demographic most interested in the idea.
5. Not everyone is being lazy, though. 5% of people say they have to work a FULL day on Thanksgiving . . . and another 9% say they have to work “limited hours.” And 28% say they will have to work the Friday after.
