Severe drought conditions in Pinellas County and Polk County have prompted the Southwest Florida Water Management District to implement a Modified Phase III “Extreme” Water Shortage Order. Customers must adhere to strict watering limits, with specific windows for watering based on property size. Customers of the service will remain under the current one-day-per-week irrigation with modified watering hours guidelines through Oct. 1. Polk County Utilities is no longer issuing courtesy letters upon a customer’s first infraction of the watering schedule. If a customer is observed watering outside of their designated day or time, they will receive a citation and possible fines. Pinellas County Utilities is required to issue a $193 citation for violations. Fines double with each additional violation. Citations must be issued without a prior warning. Customers may water only during one of these windows: 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. or • 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
