A new poll asked people to describe the worst kinds of gifts to receive . . . and these were the top responses:
1. Clothes that don’t fit, 34% agreed . . . Clothing can be difficult to pick for others, so it’s hard to be upset about a fit not working out. But at the same time, you could be tasking someone with figuring out a return or exchange.
2. A re-gifted present, 26% . . . Classic laziness, 99% of the time.
3. Cheap perfume or aftershave, 24% . . . It’s basically unusable.
4. Fake sports merchandise, 22% . . . It’s not cool, and it’s usually low-quality.
5. Underwear, 20.4% . . . It’s one thing if it’s your significant other . . . otherwise there are very few cases where this isn’t awkward.
6. Something clearly last-minute, 20% . . . It’s funny how they’re always more obvious than anyone thinks when THEY are the gifter.
7. Socks, 17% . . . Really? Was this poll done in 1995?
8. A mug or novelty item, 15% . . . No one needs another novelty mug.
9. Candles, 14.1% . . . It’s a nice gift, but at this point there are so many types, styles, and scents, so it’s trickier than just picking what YOU like.
10. Household supplies, 14% . . . I’m assuming this isn’t, like, Pine-Sol.
11. Gym gear, 11% . . . This probably made the list because it means you’re saying someone needs to lose weight.
12. Homemade gifts, 10.4% . . . Not everyone would agree with this.
13. Gift cards and vouchers, 10.2% . . . Not everyone would agree with this either. Some people may PREFER to pick out their own items . . . but a gift card can seem a little “easy.” It’s also bad if it’s not a place you like.
